Bougainvillea of Trinitaria

Like most Bougainvilleas, 'Barbara Karst' on Curaçao blooms all year round.

The plant can grow quite high and must therefore be pruned regularly, partly because it grows fairly quickly (under irrigation).

The (real) flower is white and the dark red 'flower' leaves (called 'bracts' in English) are actually deformed leaves.

Iguanas love Bougainvilleas, which is the biggest pest for this plant.

Bougainvillea can withstand the wind and is very drought tolerant. Older shrubs hardly need any water.

Plant in full sun.
