Furcraea foetida or Giant False Agave

Furcraea foetida variegata has a yellow stripe in the middle of the dark green leaves. It becomes very large and wide so take into account the location in the garden. Like all Agaves it has thorns.

After several years the Furcraea will bloom. A long stem will grow up to 6 mtr (20 ft) with yellow/white flowers,  after which young plants will grow on the stem. When the plant finished flowering and has produced the offspring, the mother plant dies and flower stem fall over dropping the small plants on the ground.

In addition to the 'Variegata' , there is an other species called 'Mediopicta', the leaves of this Furcraea are almost white with green stripes.

Like most Agave species it is very suitable for Curaçao.
